Apocalyptic Dreams

The impression we have of our planet can be very diverse: from earthly paradise to hell. Our stay on earth is temporary, and although it currently has what is necessary for our survival, it was not always so.

Dreams reflect such probabilities for global disasters to occur.

There is evidence that when there is a global event or one that will affect a large number of people, the collective unconscious is filled with symbols referring to that event, future or present. C.G. Jung studied the narratives of patients who began to describe dreams of an apocalyptic nature before the outbreak of the First World War. Not only this, but the current global situation will have prompted many people to experience dreams in which the Covid-19 pandemic manifests itself in a variety of symbolism and narratives.

Apocalypse, etymologically means revealing the truth, despite this, nowadays it is also associated with a moment in which something collapses, there is a disaster.

This typology of dreams places us in a known or unknown scenario. It may be that the disaster has already occurred, or that it is about to occur while we are dreaming. The point is that, in the narrative and symbolism, a scene is created that conveys an imminent or present danger. This danger can take many facets. From generalized fires, volcanoes, meteorites, tsunamis, or violent storms; nature is the great protagonist when it comes to creating devastating situations that change life from one minute to the next. In apocalyptic dreams, these types of natural phenomena usually appear, in which we find ourselves involved and at the mercy of nature. Usually, the only option is to flee and save oneself from the coming devastation. Sometimes, as we point out in the video, these dreams have prophetic touches; in other words, what happens is fulfilled more or less literally in waken world.

But nature is not the only protagonist of apocalypses. Wars, diseases, zombies, or vampires can be the agent that destroys society in the dream narrative experienced.
In all apocalyptic dreams there is one thing in common: the disaster is social or natural and affects humanity or a significant part of society. This rules out nightmarish dreams. If in a dream your house burns down, and it is only your house, not the whole city, then it is not a dream of this type, but of another type (probably recycling or mission) since it only refers to you or a circle that is close to you. Again, in this type of dream the apocalypse affects the way of life you know, the world goes crazy and you have to learn to survive in this new paradigm.

On the other hand, there are also post-apocalyptic scenarios. The disaster has already happened, the consequences, often equally lavish, are visible in the dream scenario in which the narrative unfolds. In these dreams we are changed by the circumstances, we have learned or are learning how to cope with the new reality we are living in.

Summarizing: The apocalyptic dreams show us internal fears of every human being in seeing us involved in catastrophic events that potentially threaten our life and that of society. In addition, there is evidence that this type of dream also has a premonitory or illustrative aspect of the changes that society and the world are experiencing.
