Dreams, so mysterious, confusing and wonderful, have fascinated human beings since they learned to sleep.
They occur in a world full of physical contradictions. The absurd is possible and also that which looks as real as wakefulness. There have been many people who have dealt with the subject of dreams; from scientific, spiritual or literary perspectives.
One could choose one of the already existing perspectives on the subject and work with what has already been published. In fact, at this moment I am reading the book The Interpretation of Dreams by Sigmund Freud, but I think by facing the subject like other personalities had, would be a bit pointless to do on this website.
One of the aspects on which we will quickly agree, when debating the nature of dreams, it’s that they’re subjective. Each dream arises from an experience of the individual who is generating the dream adventure, without the individual as a generator there would be no creation.
This project is designed to allow for individual voices, so that anyone can express their unique experience and read those of others. Perhaps in this way we can get a general idea of what really happens when we close our eyes to rest from the intense vigil.
By heart, I think dreams are more as an spiritual experience than a physiological one. There are definitely physiological processes in the body that are measurable, but I feel that is more the chicken, while the egg itself is what the individual’s spirit is doing in whichever dimension it is in. My vision of the body is that of a unique biological machine, a marvel no doubt, but a machine in which what we call “life” is what prevails. Without that electricity, without the mind and emotions, there would be no dreams and no people.
This is only one perspective, mine. But, in the end, it is personal, not that I possess knowledge beyond the basics of human physiology; nor do I consider myself a spiritual expert. Therefore, I usually limit myself to observe and theorize any hypothesis verbally, corroborated or not a posteriori, undertaking my research with simple tools:
Dreams – those of friends, or acquaintances and, of course, my own.
Open mind – If we put limitations on our perspective we will limit our own ability to communicate. Whether with another person, or with oneself, any wall can turn into a nightmare, and probably the most frightening monsters are born from the mental anxiety of some kind of repression.
Observation and study – Constant and focused; the work of enlarging one’s dream world is another of those endless tasks, like going to the gym, that require interest and patience. Man’s senses, as many as want to count, must be open and ready to receive information.
With these simple tools I will publish what I discover. Not to claim it as absolute truth, but as possibilities that with a little luck and interest of the community can be affirmed by facts or discarded, or enlarged, or magnified, or…
